How do I zoom and center a reference or preview?

Reference and preview zoom changes how you view the image, while keeping its pixel dimensions unchanged.

iPhone and iPad

Double-tap the image in the Reference panel or Preview window to cycle through zoom levels. When the cycle returns to its starting level, the image recenters; it does not recenter on every double-tap. You can also use the zoom slider to choose a different view.

In the Reference panel, this double-tap action is disabled while the Eyedropper tool is active. Switch away from that tool before trying it. These steps describe the panel view; an image set to Show In Canvas has separate placement controls.

Desktop and Android

Use the window's zoom control to adjust the display scale. Choose Fit to View to fit and center the image again. On desktop, you can also scroll over the reference or preview to zoom; on touch devices, use a pinch gesture.

These versions use the view controls above, so the iOS double-tap cycle is not the way to reset their view. See Reference Images and Preview for window controls.
