iOS: How do I paste images and reference images?

Applies to: Resprite on iPhone and iPad. You can use a clipboard image as a reference or insert it into your artwork as a layer.

The “As new layer” steps below require iOS R60 or later. If that option is missing, update Resprite before following that path.

Paste an image on iPad or iPhone​

  1. Copy the image itself from Photos, Safari, or another app.
  2. Open a project in Resprite and choose the destination:
    • Reference image: open Menu ▸ Reference image ▸ Import reference ▸ From clipboard. The image appears as a reference for viewing and color picking.
    • New layer: open Edit ▸ Insert image ▸ As new layer ▸ From clipboard to add the image to the artwork. Choose To current layer instead if that is where you want to insert it.
  3. If iOS asks for permission to paste from another app, allow it. For repeated prompts, see Paste permissions.

If Resprite reports that the clipboard contains no image, copy the image again and retry. You can also use From photos or From files in the same source menu. For reference placement and display options, see Reference images.

Copy an image from Mac to iPad or iPhone​

Apple's Universal Clipboard lets you copy an image on your Mac and paste it into Resprite on your iPad or iPhone. Check these requirements on both devices:

  • They are near each other.
  • They are signed in to the same Apple Account.
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are both turned on.
  • Handoff is enabled.

Copy the image on the Mac, then use the pasting steps above on the iPad or iPhone. Paste soon after copying: Universal Clipboard keeps the content briefly, and copying something else replaces it.

Stop repeated paste permission prompts​

This permission is managed in iOS/iPadOS Settings.

  1. Open Settings ▸ Apps ▸ Resprite. On iOS/iPadOS 17 and earlier, open Settings ▸ Resprite directly.
  2. If Paste from Other Apps is available, set it to Allow.
  3. Return to Resprite and paste the image again.

If the setting is missing, try pasting from another app in Resprite once, then check again. You can also allow pasting when the system asks, or import the image from Photos or Files.
