How do I deselect an area?

Open Menu ▸ Select ▸ Deselect to remove the selection boundary and keep its pixels.

You can also use:

• Keyboard: the default is Cmd+D on macOS and iOS, or Ctrl+D on Windows and Android. On mobile, this requires a connected keyboard. Check shortcut settings if you changed the binding.
• Rectangular selection: in Replace mode, tap or click outside the selection without dragging. This gesture is tool-specific: the Magic Wand may select another area instead.
• Tool options: use the deselect button when it is available for the active tool and selection mode. If it is not shown in your layout, use the Select menu.

Deselecting commits an active transform before clearing the selection. To reverse a move or transform, use Undo. To reposition selected content, see move selected pixels.
