What is Onion Skin?

Onion Skin overlays the previous and next frames on the canvas, helping you align motion and spacing between poses.

Configure Onion Skin

Onion Skin settings

Settings include:

  • Opacity: transparency of the first skin.
  • Opacity Step: amount the opacity changes for each additional skin.
  • Forward Count: number of future frames to preview.
  • Backward Count: number of previous frames to preview.
  • Behind Sprite: render skins behind or in front of the current frame.
  • Tint Mode: choose among three tint styles.

Toggle Onion Skin

Enable or disable Onion Skin via any of the following:

  • Preferences ▸ Onion Skin
  • Menu ▸ View ▸ Show Onion Skin
  • Single-finger gesture: enable single-finger gestures and drag up or down.
  • Timeline action bar toggle.

FAQ

Why can’t I see Onion Skin?
Ensure the background layer is hidden; otherwise the overlay may blend into it.
