Start a New Sprite

Resprite treats every project as a sprite file that wraps the canvas, timeline, palette, and metadata. Use the steps below to spin up a clean workspace in seconds.

  1. Open Gallery and tap the New button /doc-imgs/new-sprite-btn.jpeg in the upper-right corner.
  2. Fill out the New Sprite dialog with a file name and either select a preset or enter a custom width and height.
  3. Confirm to generate the canvas and begin drawing immediately.

New Sprite dialog

Resprite supports canvases up to 3840 × 2160 (4K UHD) or an equivalent pixel count. When items are on the system clipboard, the dialog offers a matching resolution so you can paste without resampling. For reliable performance, keep day-to-day work at or below 1080p unless you are validating large-format exports.

Performance impact

Large canvases or timelines with hundreds of frames consume significantly more memory and can slow editing or playback. Consider splitting complex projects into multiple files.

Save Custom Canvas Presets

If you often work at specific dimensions, add them as presets in the New Sprite dialog to avoid retyping values.

Available commands include:

  • Frame rate – define the timeline playback speed for previews and exports.
  • Scale sprite – resize every frame proportionally while maintaining pixel ratios.
  • Change canvas size – expand or crop the canvas without scaling existing pixels.
  • Rotate / Flip canvas – adjust orientation across all frames.
  • Crop to selection bounds – trim the canvas to match the active selection.

Next, review the import and export guides for moving artwork between Resprite and other tools.
