Control Your Colours
The palette window is the command centre for colour management in Resprite. It supports freeform layout, interpolation, sampling, and preset management so you can maintain consistent colour stories across projects.
Palette Window Basics

- Reorder – drag and drop swatches anywhere in the grid.
- Delete – drag a swatch outside the palette window to remove it.
- Set pen colour – tap the star button
to assign the selected swatch to the active pen colour.
Tune Palette Preferences
Open Preferences ▸ Palette to customise the palette experience.

Key options:
- Show pen colour – display the current pen colour either on the top bar or within the palette.
- Item size – adjust swatch size to match your screen density.
- Palette presets manager – open the preset library to load, save, or set defaults.
- Max sampled colours – limit how many colours are captured when generating a palette from the canvas.
Colour Interpolation
Fill gaps between two anchor colours automatically.
Colour interpolation works across rows or columns (Resprite v1.6 and later). Select the boundary swatches, then use the interpolate command to generate the intermediate colours.
Sample from Canvas
Create a palette directly from your artwork.
- Avoid importing JPG references when sampling colours. JPEG compression introduces subtle variations that can produce thousands of swatches.
- Use the Max sampled colours preference to cap the number of colours generated.
- Resprite analyses colour distribution and clusters similar values to return a balanced palette within the limit.
Clear, Import, and Export
Use Menu ▸ Palette to clear the current palette or to import/export files.

Supported formats:
- GPL (
.gpl) – the standard palette format used by GIMP and many other editors. - RPL (
.rpl) – Resprite’s JSON-based format that preserves swatch positions in the grid.
Palette Presets Manager
Access the presets manager from Preferences ▸ Palette or Menu ▸ Palette ▸ Load.

Load one of the bundled palettes, save your own, or set a default palette so new sprites start with a consistent colour base.
Like Indexed Mode
Enable Menu ▸ Palette ▸ Like Indexed to link palette swatches with every pixel that uses them. Editing a swatch instantly updates the canvas, making it ideal for global colour adjustments.
This behaves similarly to classic indexed colour workflows. On very large sprites the reassignment step can take a moment while Resprite updates each frame. (Desktop & Android support is planned for a future release.)
Colour Picker Window
The colour picker offers multiple layouts and slider combinations.

If you prefer a minimal workspace, display the pen colour directly in the palette or top bar and hide the standalone colour picker. All palette and colour picker layout controls live under Preferences ▸ Palette and Preferences ▸ Interface.
